                          classify the images

reading an image

You need to analyse an image because:

q Images are often accused of deforming reality (lying) whereas in fact they just show one particular point of view

q The same image can give rise to different interpretations due to different connotations

q We are still learning to “see” and people may have different perceptions

q You need to know certain technical rules to interpret images correctly

(and you need to understand the terminology)

      what the image expresses

An image, like a text, is a statement or a form of expression.

The image is a way of communicating and transmits a message to a receptor.

The techniques the transmitter uses are:

q Framing

q Perspective

q Shots (foreground, background, middle ground)

q Angles

q Colours

q Viewpoints

q Styles and technical alterations

q Camera movements and editing (clipping shots)
