Here is a suggested answer:
On December 13th, the main Belgian TV channel played a well-prepared hoax on its viewers. They interrupted the main news programme to announce that the Walloon and Flemish parts of Belgium had separated and were now independant.
Many people played the game, the newsreader, famous politicians and several personalities. Despite announcements that it was fiction (flashed on the screen at the beginning of the programme) more than 80 percent of the population believed in the hoax. They did not switch channels to check the information, or try to discover the truth! This situation lasted for about forty minutes.
People's reactions were very different; there were those who felt that the media had gone too far, they had misused their power and they felt that people would not trust journalists as much afterwards. Others belived that it was justified, that it was a good joke, and that the objective (of provoking a debate on the issue) was fulfilled.
